Baker Center retail stores to combine in the near future
< < Back to baker-center-retail-stores-combine-near-futureTwo retail stores inside Ohio University’s Baker Student Center will join forces later this year.
The Technology Depot and Bobcat Essentials will combine into one store on the first floor of Baker. Renovations will begin at the end of spring semester and will be completed by the early summer before Bobcat Student Orientation.
Sean O’Malley, IT Communications Manager, said the Ohio Information Technology and university facilities were looking for options to give students a single store for their shopping needs.
“We’re very excited to be collaborating with auxiliaries on this and we think it’s going to provide a really convenient experience for the students.”
While final blueprints are not set, the space on the first floor will be extended into the lobby area for extra storeroom. The space that Bobcat Essentials currently occupies on the fourth floor will be renovated to expand the Allen Student Help Center. That expansion will be completed by the upcoming fall semester.
However a name for the new combined retail store has yet to be decided.
“We actually held a contest to pick a new name,” said O’Malley. “We’ll have to look at submissions and see who comes out on top.”
Students and faculty have been submitting their most creative names throughout the week. The winner will receive a 16G iPad Mini.
