Athens School Bus Window Shot While Kids Aboard
< < Back to athens-school-bus-window-shot-out-while-kids-aboardA bus load of Athens City School students got a scare while riding home Wednesday afternoon.
Athens City Schools Associate Superintendent Tom Gibbs told parents in an email and phone call that a window was shot out by either a BB or pellet gun.
Gibbs said students on the bus reported seeing two teenagers leaving the area with what appeared to be a weapon.
The Athens County Sheriff’s Department apprehended two teenage suspects and the weapon was verified to be a BB or pellet gun, according to the message.
Students were transferred to separate bus and transported safely home.
There were no injuries reported.
The school system is investigating the incident in conjunction with the Athens County Sheriff’s Department.
Gibbs said in the message that the school system felt it was important to tell parents about the situation “due to the severe nature of the incident.”
