Beard Fans 12, Slows Ohio Offense
< < Back to beard-fans-12-slows-ohio-offenseMississippi is not so pretty to Ohio one game into the Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic, as the Bobcats fell to South Alabama 3-0.
The ‘Cats were at a loss as to how to approach Jaguar hurler Farish Beard. The junior pitcher, who came in having allowed only one earned run in 29-plus innings on the mound, struck out 12 Ohio hitters.
The top of the lineup struggled just as mightily as the bottom in trying to figure out Beard, as Amanda Dalton struck out twice; so did Alexandria Basquez. Alexia Cortez struck out all three times she came to the dish.
No. 19 South Alabama completely shut down Ohio in every way with its defense on the field, but only collected two hits.
A Chloe Rathburn solo shot put the Jags on the board in the bottom of the second. Ohio’s Adrienne Gebele made an error in right field with two runners on to extend that South Alabama lead to 3-0.
Savannah Jo Dorsey pitched a solid outing, allowing those two hits and only one earned run while striking out six and walking six. Dorsey earned her second loss of the season and is now 9-2.
Kaylin Clarke picked up Ohio’s only hit of the afternoon when she came on to pinch-hit for Dalton in the sixth. She dropped a two-out dribbler for an infield hit.
Casie Hutchinson was the only other player to reach base for Ohio with a walk.
