Office of Sustainabilty Plans Earth Day Celebration

This year, the Office of Sustainability is celbrating earth day with a recognition program. Mackenzie Henery-Hoegler, Event Coordinator for the Office of Sustainability said, "The event is an award cermony recognizing groups around campus, faculty members, staff members, student groups or students for any sustainable actions that they are promoting on campus."
The Office of Sustainability promotes green living with recycling, composting and buying local. Recently, the residence halls on college green, including Scott Quad, Bryan Hall and Voigt Hall had a sustainability palooza.
Jocelyn Pettit, Resident Assistant At Bryan Hall said the halls combined to show the residents ways to be more stable. She said, "We are trying to teach our residents about sustainability and how they can become sustainable citizens by recycling and using thier old things that they might throw away in creative ways."
Awards will be given out to faculty, students, staff, departments and residential housing for showing exemplary stable living. Prizes will include products of local businesses including Fluff, Insomnia Cookies and Casa Nueva and prizes like re-useable waterbottles. Henery-Hoegler explained that the prizes promote local businesses while still avoiding extra problems for the enviornment.
The office of sustainabilty invites everyone to attend the Earth Day celebration. The event will be held April 22nd in Walter Hall Rotunda 4-6:30 p.m.
