Busy Weekend Ahead For The RedStorm
< < Back to busy-weekend-ahead-redstormAfter splitting a doubleheader against West Virginia State on Wednesday, the Rio Grande RedStorm (19-10) finish their road trip with a doubleheader on Friday against Campbellsville (27-15) and then on Saturday against St. Catharine (11-20).
In their first meeting, Rio and Campbellsville split the twin-bill, with Rio taking game one 2-1 but then getting routed 8-0.
Ace pitcher Jenna Jones pitched a full game in game one, giving up just five hits and one run and struck out three. The bats went silent for game two, as Campbellsville’s Taylor Wroe and Martina Riney struck out nine and gave up just one hit.
Look for Kim Rollins, the leading batter for the Redstorm with a batting average of .333, to get the bats going for the Storm. If the Storm can get just one win out of the doubleheader, they will reach 20 wins on the season.
On Saturday, the Redstorm will head to St. Catharine seeking redemption after giving up six hits and 10 runs in their game two loss of a doubleheader earlier in the season. Shanea Long led the Storm at the plate with a home run in game two. Despite getting eight earned runs, Jenna Jones was able to strike out six Patriots.
On Friday, the first game is set for 2 p.m. and on Saturday the games are set to start at 1 p.m.
