New Assessments For Ohio Kindergartners
< < Back to new-assessments-ohio-kindergartnersOhio's kindergartners will be assessed this year under a system that state officials say will help teachers measure what the students know.
They say the new system also will help teachers design lesson plans tailored to each child's strengths and weaknesses.
The Mansfield News Journal reports that kindergarten students in the past were assessed on language and literacy proficiency. The new assessments also test physical well-being and motor development, math, science, social studies and social skills.
State officials say they want to focus on children's academic, social, emotional and physical development.
The state is training kindergarten teachers how to administer the assessments that must be completed by the beginning of November.
