Halloween Block Party Report from City of Athens

The City of Athens Block Party ended at approximately 2:30 AM. Street crews began cleaning up the street after police officers cleared pedestrians at 2:45 AM. The streets are expected to be open at approximately 5:30 AM.
Gunshots were fired on Court St. between W. Union and Washington at approximately 2:05 AM. No injuries have been reported at this time as a result of this incident and it is under investigation. A separate media report will be made available regarding this incident.
The Athens Fire Department had 3 calls for service. No major fire related events were reported.
Athens County Emergency Medical Services responded to 46 calls for service, which resulted in 33 transports to O’Bleness memorial Hospital.
The Athens Police Department made 40 arrests, including one felony trafficking charge. Further details of charges will be made available no later than Tuesday, October 28th, 2014.
The Ohio University Police Department made 24 arrests related to the Halloween Block Party.
The Ohio Department of Public Safety Investigative Unit arrest figures were not available as of press time. Figures will be made available at a later date.
The City of Athens Safety Team consisted of 11 volunteers that were on patrol from 8:30 PM to 1:30 AM.
