Eastern Dominates Belpre For Third Straight Win
< < Back to eastern-dominates-belpre-third-straight-winThe Eastern Lady Eagles dominated the boards and defeated the Belpre Lady Golden Eagles 59-39 on Thursday night. Eastern outrebounded Belpre 48-21 en route to a blowout victory.
Eastern (3-0, 2-0 TVC-Hocking) led by just seven points at halftime, but outscored Belpre 20-9 in the third quarter to coast to the easy victory.
“We weren’t shooting great, but we got a lot of second chances,” Eastern coach John Burdette said. “I was pretty happy with the way we went after the ball.”
Eastern shot just 35 percent from the floor on the night, but their subpar shooting didn’t factor in the outcome.
Maddison Williams led all scorers with 15 points for Eastern, including a half-court buzzer-beater to end the first half. Laura Pullins racked up a double-double in the victory with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Katelynn Hughes led Belpre (2-1, 1-1 TVC-Hocking) with 16 points and Sierra Barker added 11 in the loss. Belpre shot 30 percent from the field and made 4 of 19 from beyond the arc.
Burdette says the undefeated start to the season has given his young team some confidence going forward.
“They have to get confidence and learn to play together,” Burdette said. “We’ll have to keep growing and getting better every game.”
Eastern will travel to Wahama to take on the White Falcons on Monday, Dec. 8.
Belpre will look to bounce back from their first loss of the season when they host Trimble on Dec. 8.
