Ohio’s Top Utility Regulator Says He’s Resigning As Chairman

Ohio’s top utility regulator says he is resigning as chairman of the Public Utilities Commission but will continue to serve as a commissioner.
Thomas Johnson, a former state budget director, was sworn in to lead the regulating agency less than a year ago. He replaced Todd Snitchler, who decided not to seek reappointment when his term expired.
Johnson told Gov. John Kasich in a letter on Monday that “for personal reasons,” he needed to alleviate some demands on his time. He said he would stay on as chairman until the governor found a replacement. Johnson said he planned to continue to serve the remainder of his term, which ends April 10, 2019.
Johnson spent 22 years in the Ohio House before becoming budget director for then-Gov. Bob Taft.
