On Wednesday, Athens County Common Pleas Judge George McCarthy ruled that an initiative that would change Athens County to a charter style of government should be decided by voters in November.
Board members were unsure how much time they have to appeal the decision. Some members believed the board only had three days to appeal.
Board member Kate McGuckin suggested discussing the time limit with the Athens County prosecutor about the time limit.
Board member Ken Ryan, who is also an attorney, said typically a party has 30 days to give notice of an appeal. However, he told the board he would not be surprised if the process was accelerated in cases regarding elections.
The board scheduled another meeting for Aug. 4th, when the board will decide whether to appeal.
