Athens Police Warn Of Solicitation Scam

The Athens Police Department is warning residents about possible scam involving door-to-door solicitation.
The department received a reported saying a resident on West State Street came in contact with a “representative claiming to be from Entrust Energy.”
“He claims to be sent from AEP Ohio and Columbia Gas to adjust your meter in order to avoid your rates going up significantly,” the release stated. “He was unable to provide documentation from AEP or Columbus Gas and was not dressed in clothing with either of their logos.”
According to news release, Entrust Energy is not registered with Code Enforcement and not part of the Athens County Aggregation group.
