Ohio Field Hockey Gets 3-2 Win Over VCU

The action picked up immediately after the beginning of the second period with the Bobcats (2-2) scoring at 37:58 and 41:46, thanks to Hannah Kingsbury and Maria Russell, respectively.
To open the matchup, the Bobcats wasted no time in scoring the first goal of the game in under six minutes. Senior Clarissa Leickly got the upper hand on the Rams with help from teammates Kristen Buchanan and Adele Sammons.
VCU wasted no time, and answered Ohio with a score of its own 10 minutes later when Emily McNamara brought the match to a 1-1 tie.
The rest of the first period was relatively quiet as Ohio only had three shots to VCU’s four, though both teams had two corners.
Ohio doubled its shot attempts in the second period, while VCU still only managed four. Jamee Albright gave the Rams some hope after pushing the ball past Lina Trucco, off of a rebound at 59:58. But the Bobcats defense was just too much for VCU, and the ‘Cats piled on three more saves in the second period to preserve their 3-2 victory.
The Bobcats will look to make it two wins in a row in their next game against the Liberty Flames on Saturday. The game will be Ohio’s home opener, and it’s set to start at 5:30 p.m.
