Belpre, Miller to Clash in TVC-Hocking Showdown
< < Back to belpre-miller-to-clash-in-tvc-hocking-showdownThe only thing that is certain in the TVC-Hocking this year, is uncertainty.
Perhaps no two teams embody the depth of the conference in 2015 better than the Belpre Golden Eagles (4-2) and the Miller Falcons (5-1). Both teams have only one conference loss at this point in the season and second place will be up for grabs when the Golden Eagles travel to Miller on Friday.
Coming into the season, Belpre was a popular choice to overtake Trimble for the conference crown, but the boys from Belpre opened their year with two straight losses. Since then, however, they have won four straight in dominating fashion.
On the flip side of that coin, Miller only won one game last year and went 0-8 in conference play. This season has been a complete turnaround for the Falcons, with their only loss coming against Trimble two weeks ago. That loss did nothing to derail the Falcons however, as they are coming off an 82-6 win over Hannan.
Though Belpre and Miller took very different paths to get to this spot, both teams have only one loss in TVC play and this game will be crucial to each team’s playoff hopes.
Over the past four games, the Golden Eagles have been lighting up the scoreboard to the tune of 44 points per game. Belpre doesn’t only play on one side of the ball though. In those same four games, the Golden Eagles have only allowed 19 points.
Tavian Miller and Deijon Bedgood, both seniors, lead the Belpre offense. Running back Matthew Colvin has also been a huge part of Belpre’s ground game.
This past week against South Gallia, Belpre ran the ball 30 times for 290 yards, led by Tozjae Reams who had 85 yards and a touchdown. In Miller’s only loss this year against Trimble, the Falcons gave up 298 yards and six touchdowns to Justice Jenkins and Kameron Curry, so you can expect that Belpre will be looking to run the ball against a defense that has proven susceptible to giving up big games on the ground.
Last week, Belpre attempted only two passes the entire game because of the weather and the forecast shows thunderstorms in the area again this week, so chalk that up as another reason why Belpre will look to keep the ball moving the old fashioned way.
Kickoff for this game is set for 7:30.
