Nelsonville-York Uses Defense to Get Past Athens

Tonight, the story did not get any better for the Lady Bulldogs as they had 22 in the first half alone. Nelsonville-York (2-0) forced a total of 32 turnovers and defeated Athens (0-3) 48-22.
Nelsonville-York sported a full-court press to slow down Athens throughout the game. The Lady Bulldogs weren’t able to get past the press and only was able to capitalize a minimal amount of times from full-court passes.
The Lady Buckeyes looked to guards Jessie Addis, Sam Taylor, and forward Tori Campbell. The trio stepped up for the Lady Buckeyes’ second scoring option in forward Kaitlyn Hurd, who did not record a basket.
Athens senior guard Alexis McCollum, the lone starter from the conference champion team last year, continued her aggressive tendencies for Athens, totaling six turnovers and only one assist. She led the Lady Bulldogs with seven points and was followed by fellow senior guard Taylor Gregory and her five points on three shots.
Athens will look to get its first win of the season Friday night when they host St. Joseph Central from Huntington, West Virginia. Nelsonville-York travels on Monday to Vinton County who lost by a close margin to TVC-Ohio powerhouse to Alexander.
