The former treasurer of a local youth football association has been indicted by a grand jury after being accused of stealing from the organization.

On Monday, Rebecca Osborne, treasurer of the Federal Hocking Youth Football Association, was charged with grand theft, a fourth-degree felony, according to Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn.

Osborne is accused of stealing more than $7,500 from the association, and has since resigned, Athens County Sheriff Rodney Smith told WOUB.

Investigators from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office requested that a county grand jury charge Osborne after looking into the youth football and cheerleading program’s financial records.

The investigation began at the end of the youth football team’s 2015 season, when a “discrepancy of the program’s finances” was found by board members, according to a news release by the sheriff’s office. Investigators subpoenaed all bank records and interviewed board members.

An arraignment has been set for Jan. 6.
