Health Care Enrollment Deadline is Sunday
< < Back toCOLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Organizers are holding events this weekend to enroll uninsured Ohioans in coverage as the sign-up deadline approaches for President Barack Obama’s health care law.
Sunday is the last day to sign up to buy private insurance on the federal marketplace for coverage in 2016. Fines for being uninsured could average nearly $1,000 per household.
Penalties are the health care law’s nudge to get healthy people into the insurance pool, helping keep premiums manageable for everyone.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says more than 226,000 Ohioans have already enrolled or had their coverage automatically renewed.
Sign-up events were being held Saturday and Sunday at Columbus-area churches, libraries and elsewhere. People can also enroll at Get Covered Ohio: http://bit.ly/20bNAqh , healthcare.gov or 1-800-318-2596.
