Alexander Extends Winning Streak Against Wellston
< < Back to alexander-extends-winning-streak-against-wellstonAlexander adds another win to its record putting the Spartans at a seven game winning streak.
The Alexander Spartans beat the Wellston Golden Rockets 73-47 on Tuesday night. However, this score does not accurately reflect how hard both teams played.
Alexander struggled in the first few minutes with keeping the ball in its position and giving Wellston a 6-0 run. The Golden Rockets had seven steals, and team play was huge for Wellston with eight team assists.
Wellston’s man defense seemed to stump the Spartans at first. Alexander quickly retaliated with forceful offense and its own man defense. Once Alexander got its start, there was no stopping them.
Corey Chapman dominated the boards getting a double-double against Wellston Tuesday night. Chapman scored 12 points and brought down 11 rebounds. However, no surprise, Seth Richardson led scoring for the team with 16 points.
“Once we got that first three minutes under our belt, and I called that first time out,” said Coach Kerns. “I could see it in their eyes they were going to go out with the energy that they needed,”
Unfortunately, Wellston did not bring that energy on the court. The Golden Rockets had a total of 15 turnovers. Braydon Womeldorf finished with only nine points. Chazz Davis had 13 points, the only Wellston player to score double digits.
Up next is a huge redemption game for Alexander against Vinton County on February 3rd. When the Spartans played Vinton earlier this year, they lost 66-47. Wellston will play at River Valley on February 3rd.
