A man was hospitalized after a reported stabbing Thursday night in Chauncey.

Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 31 Main Street on a report that two men had been in an altercation. Both men were transported to OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital for treatment, according to a Friday morning sheriff’s office report.

Danny Thomas, 46, of Chauncey and Jeffrey Kempton, 57, also of Chauncey were identified Friday morning as the two men in the altercation.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said Kempton had sustained the head injuries in the altercation and “left Thomas with multiple stab wounds.”

Thomas reportedly had stab wounds to the kidney area, Sheriff Rodney Smith told WOUB on Thursday night. He was flown to a St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington via Life Flight, but a condition was not available. Kempton was air-lifted to Cabell Hospital in Huntington.

Both subjects are being release Friday morning, but the case remains under investigation, according to the release.

No charges have been filed in the case.
