NMF Pre-Party to Feature Live Music, Ticket Discounts
< < Back to nmf-columbus-pre-party-to-feature-live-music-ticket-discountsThe Nelsonville Music Festival will host a pre-party at Ace of Cups in Columbus on Saturday, April 9, featuring music from three local acts: Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, Drift Mouth and Kizzy Hall.
In addition, DJ Bela Koe-Krompecher of Anyway Records will be playing music in between bands, NMF staff will sell discounted weekend passes and give away some merchandise, and And Athens’ own Jackie O’s Brewery will be taking over three taps at Ace of Cups that night with drafts of Firefly, Razz Wheat, and NMF favorite Ricky.
Thomas Jefferson Slave Apartments, formed in Columbus in 1989 by former Great Plains frontman Ron House, released several acclaimed albums throughout the 1990s on labels such as American, Rockathon (run by Bob Pollard of Guided By Voices), and Columbus’ own Anyway Records. Saturday’s performance marks a somewhat rare live performance from the group, who will follow up this show with a spot at the Nelsonville Music Festival in June.
Drift Mouth is the newest project from long-time Columbus musician Lou Poster, their music is self-described as “antiquated and twisted Appalachian murder ballads and backwater tragedies, dragged through a sluice of runoff from the slurry pond and rolled in coal dust.” Drift Mouth features members of several Ohio bands, including Grafton, Bob City, The Means, Greenhorn, Messrs and Mooncussers.
Kizzy Hall will start off the show. The band has been kicking around Columbus for the past few years, and have released a full length album and an EP of their lo-fi DIY rock. The music gets underway at 9 p.m. Ace of Cups is located at 2619 North High Street in Columbus.
