< < Back to cincinnati-man-dies-in-athens-shootingA Cincinnati man has died as a result of a shooting at Riverpark Towers, according to police.
Officers from the Athens Police Department responded to report of a robbery that involved a shooting at 36 N. McKinley Ave., apartment 810, at about 8 p.m. Thursday.
Police, the Major Crimes Unit with Athens County and the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office investigated overnight, and confirmed in a news release Friday morning that Markel Morrison, 22, died as a result of the incident.
The investigation lead to the arrest of John Michael Fults-Ganey, 21, of Athens. Ganey is charged with murder and complicity to aggravated burglary. A $1 million bond was set in an initial appearance at Athens County Municipal Court Friday morning. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in the case on June 6.
Investigators believe Morrison played a part in the alleged robbery attempt, for which Fults-Ganey is charged.
“This is a very complex incident that will require much time to fully investigate,” Athens Police Chief Tom Pyle stated in the release. “For this reason, public statement on the case will be limited to prepared press releases.”
The investigation is ongoing.
