Ohio Falls to Western Michigan in Wet Conditions
< < Back to ohio-falls-to-western-michigan-in-wet-conditionsOhio soccer went up against the Broncos as they hosted Western Michigan University at Chessa Field on Friday. Thanks to a strong first half, Western Michigan was able to come away with the win 2-0.
The Bobcats defense was strong throughout the first half as keeper Erin Beurket went on a save streak while in goal.
However, the Broncos put an end to her stop streak, scoring the first goal of the game. Although, Ohio’s Remi Eades had a powerful goal attempt, the shot was unsuccessful; the Broncos managed to score a second goal and maintained a 2-goal lead for the remainder of the first half.
In the second half, Taylor Smith stepped into goal for the Bobcats, played with a similar stop streak as previous keeper Beurket, and let nothing past her. Weather conditions took a toll on many of the players defensive and offensive performances; as rain saturated the playing field, Ohio’s chances of a comeback slipped away.
Western Michigan outshot Ohio 19-5. However, Ohio’s keepers recorded 10 saves, 6 for Beurket and 4 for Smith.
Ohio soccer will host Northern Illinois on Sunday at Chessa Field at 1:00 p.m.
