Nelsonville-York Buckeyes Face Off Against Meigs, Athens

Jessie Addis and company squared off with the girls from Meigs on Dec. 12. The Lady Buckeyes cruised to a 41-30 win behind Addis’ 16 points. NY also got some help from Sam Taylor who was all over the box score accumulating eight points, three rebounds, three steals and three assists. Sidney Fick provided a huge boost down low grabbing 12 boards.
On Dec. 16, it was a cross-town showdown with the Lady Buckeyes battling the Lady Bulldogs of Athens. The three-headed monster of Jordan Fick, Sidney Fick and Camrin Dupler led the scoring with each dropping 12 points. Addis was solid as well adding eight points and five assists. Nelsonville-York would take this one, 49-28.
The first-year coach, Bobby Cassady, has the Lady Buckeyes off to a tremendous start. He has been impressed so far with the team’s ability to get everyone involved, stressing the idea that playing team basketball wins games. The Lady Buckeyes are scheduled to play Alexander on Dec. 18, and Coach Cassady said that the team is already preparing for the impressive Lady Spartans’ offense, an offense that has notched 55 points a staggering 5 times already in this young season.
As for the boys from Nelsonville-York, the Buckeyes lost their lone contest of the week to Griffin Lutz and the Athens Bulldogs, 73-58.
Lutz led all scorers with 29 points with Dalton Cozart following behind with 17. NY’s leading scorer was Hunter Edwards as he notched 21 points. While Aron Davis provided some help adding 18 points.
The Buckeyes’ next game is scheduled for Dec. 20 at Meigs.
