Trimble Advances over St. Joseph
< < Back to trimble-advances-over-st-josephThe Trimble Lady Tomcats fought to get another opportunity to play in the sectional tournament Monday night with their win against St. Joseph in the first round.
It was a very low scoring game right from the tip-off as neither team was able to score any points in the first two minutes of the game. That would change quickly however as Trimble ended the first quarter on a 10-0 run.
With St. Joseph in a half-court zone defense, Trimble was able to settle down its offense and pass the ball around with ease, giving them good looks to get high-percentage shots at the basket.
Trimble was able to force turnovers consistently as well in their full-court zone trap, it took St. Joe’s a few possessions before they were able to figure out how to exploit the trap and get into their half-court offense.
The unselfish ball movement from the Lady Tomcats kept the offense going strong up to halftime as Trimble led St. Joe’s 26-11. The game seemed out of hand at this point but St. Joe’s showed fight as they came out after halftime.
The St. Joe offense was hitting on all cylinders coming out of the half. They finally started to hit their outside shots and get easy buckets at the rim as well. They were able to cut into the deficit by outscoring Trimble 13-2 points in the whole 3rd quarter.
Sydney Hardy and Emily Ward would not let this game get away from them however as they both took control for the Lady Tomcats.
Hardy finished the game with 11 points while going 3-5 from 3-point land. Ward had just eight points but was killer on the boards as she poured in 12 rebounds, five of those coming on the offensive side.
Hardy’s offensive rebounding kept the offense alive for the Lady Tomcats and gave them second chance opportunities to score. Hardy was the spark that Trimble needed to keep this game alive.
Trimble was able to hold onto their lead in the 4th quarter before eventually getting the victory with a score of 37-26.
After the game coach Joe Richards said this was one of the biggest wins they have had in two years.
With this win Trimble will advance to the second round of the sectional tournament where they will face the top-seeded Waterford Lady Wildcats. That game will be held at Meigs High School Thursday night at 6:15.
