In celebration of the 20th biennial of Quilt National, The Dairy Barn Arts Center will be hosting our second Quilt National workshop series in our new fiber arts studio.

The second series of workshops ‘The Process’ will run August 23-26 and feature Quilt National artist Daren Redman, multimedia visual artist Barbara Ery and local quilt and fiber experts Meta Van Nostran and Mary Roediger. Each day of the workshops will host presentations and classes from silk painting and wool dyeing to Shibori and Indigo dyeing. Workshops will run every day from around 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“This second series of workshops focuses on dyeing fabric to use in your fiber projects. There are so many diverse methods to enhance your textiles with dyes, and each adds depth & vigor to your fabric palette.” said Ann Judy, Fiber Arts Studio Manager. “We will be offering instruction in four different dyeing techniques for your enjoyment and education.”

Workshop participants are encouraged to come a day early to experience the Crazy Quilt Crawl, which features contemporary and traditional quilts from local Athenians at over 45 locations in town and throughout Athens County. Participants will also be able to view Quilt National ’17 and Transforming Traditions at the Southeast Ohio History Center– two major quilt exhibitions on the crawl for free.

Daren Redamn’s Shibori and Indigo dyeing classes are expected to be very popular and are limited to 12 participants. Make sure to sign up early to secure your spot in the class!
