In basketball, teams have to take it one game at a time. After a tough loss on Friday against the Athens Bulldogs, the Alexander Spartans had four days to regroup and prepare for their Tuesday night playoff matchup against the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes.

The Spartans defeated the Buckeyes 64-47 by pulling forward with an early lead, earning them a spot in the Sectional Championship.

Big players in the matchup were senior Ryan Davidson, sophomore Caleb Terry and junior Dylan Mecum. Davidson shot 70% tonight ending with 16 points.

6-foot-8 Caleb Terry throughout the season has proven himself as a strong center that is ready under the basket to put up big buckets, ended with 12 points and eight boards.

Mecum finished the night with four buckets and four steals, one right off tip-off that resulted in a layup and the start of their lead.

The Spartans played a polished offense attacking straight to the hoop when the opportunity presented itself and executed quick ball movement when the lane wasn’t open. The guards kept their eyes open for the centers posting up in the paint.

Defensively, Alexander kept their hands up and feet quick to make important stops. The flustered Buckeyes turned over the ball 16 times and disappointed Coach Jamie Justus who let his emotions take over, earning him a technical.

The Spartans will advance to Sectional Championship against the South Point Pointers on Saturday at Jackson High School at 6 p.m.
