Athens Punk and Metal Festival Returns to Casa July 5-7

Punk and metal are vital musical forms that are alive and well in Athens County. Last year, Casa Nueva’s “Metal” Mike Lannan threw the first Athens Punk and Metal Fest at Casa Cantina, an event that included the likes of FYPM, The Revulvas, Salem Hollow, Death to the State, and many others.
The event is returning to Casa this year, bigger and better, taking place Thursday, July 5 through Saturday, July 7. Every night the music will start at 10 p.m., and attendance each night is only $5. The roster of performing bands includes Salem Hollow, Nobody Wins, Slut Castle, Echo’s Edge, Cursed Path, Goodbye Goats, T.F.U., Alive, Electric Funeral (Black Sabbath tribute), Death to the State, Warn the Others, and Mad World.
WOUB’s Emily Votaw spoke to Lannan about the cultural importance of Black Sabbath, the relevance of punk and metal within the context of the regional music scene, and what everyone can expect from a three day punk and metal extravaganza at Casa.
