Every weekend local music geeks unite to provide the region with 11 hours of creatively curated tunes on WOUB 1340AM, an endeavor that is known commonly as Radio Free Athens! Typically the program runs from 9 a.m. EST to 8 p.m. EST every Saturday, and can also be heard through this link.

Here is a list of the DJs slated to play on Saturday, June 30:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – DJ Arty Mac
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Out of the Afternoon with Art Cromwell
3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – Michael T
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – DJ Grumpy Grandma

Below, find a preview of some of the groovy tunes that will be flowing through the airwaves this Saturday from a couple of our volunteer DJs.

The Who Sell Out has long been one of my all-time favorite records, and it’s one that I first grew to know on a warped cassette in a boombox in my parent’s garage — which wasn’t so much a garage but a barn to put furniture that was beyond repair but maintained too much sentimental value. It was also a cool place for spiders and stray cats to hang out in, and I feel like they appreciated my nonstop play of this particular cassette.

In 2005, Petra Haden, aka Charlie Haden’s daughter, released an entirely acapella rendition of my favorite Who album, and although I vaguely remember my father purchasing it when I was a kid — I didn’t develop any particular fondness for it — until last weekend. So, my copy of it is supposed to arrive this afternoon, just in time for my Radio Free Athens shift tomorrow! Make sure to tune in!
