Vinton County Leaves Alexander in the Dust

The Lady Vikings couldn’t keep their foot off the gas pedal in their game against rival Alexander, Thursday night.

In the first quarter, the Lady Spartans were defending their court with a score of 10-8. Alexander was liking the feeling of being on top. Vinton County eventually pulled themselves together and came back in the first half, 22-15.

The Lady Vikings kept their momentum in the second half, ending the third quarter with the score of 37-26. The Lady Vikings had no mercy over the Lady Spartans in the fourth quarter, with the game resulting 54-34.

Both teams more than doubled their scores in the second half.

The Lady Vikings had hot hands Thursday night and the Lady Spartans just couldn’t keep up. The Lady Vikings liked the three-point line so much they shot 40% and produced more than 50% of their points from out. Vinton County’s sophomore point guard Morgan Bentley had a phenomenal game finishing her night with 27 points, 10 rebounds, two steals, and two rebounds.

For Alexander, Kena Rice and Rachel Richardson helped lead there team. Rice racked up 9 points and 4 rebounds, while Richardson who was just short of a double-double, had 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Despite the loss, the home fans never stopped cheering for their team. The Alexander student section was on their feet the entire game, with Vinton County trying to counter their rowdiness.

The Lady Vikings are going back home on Monday to play Athens at 7:30.
