Athens Co. Clerk of Courts Dies, Commissioners to Discuss Replacement

The Athens County Commissioners’ Office confirmed the news Wednesday.
Willis was appointed to the position in 2018 to finish the term of Ann Trout, who retired shortly before the appointment.
She had previously served 18 total years in the clerk’s office and also spent time as the fiscal officer for Dover Township.
Athens County Common Pleas Court Judge George McCarthy and others memorialized the life of Willis on the judge’s Facebook page.
The County Commissioners will hold a special meeting Thursday at 8:30 a.m. to discuss the appointment of an acting clerk. The county’s Democratic Party’s Central committee is tasked with naming an interim.
The original term was set to run to 2020.
