Trial Pushed in West Virginia Murder Case
< < Back toHUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — A trial date has been pushed back for a man accused of shooting a youth football coach at a West Virginia gas station in 2017.
The Herald-Dispatch reports the defendant’s attorney plans to seek input from the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals on a judge’s rulings in not allowing an expert witness to testify.
Antwon Starkey was charged with murder in the death of KaFrederick “Bae Bae” McEachin.
For the past year, attorneys have debated about a defense expert testifying to Starkey’s state of mind.
During a recent hearing, defense attorney Abe Saad argued Cabell Circuit Judge Gregory Howard twice reversed decisions that originally gave him full access to detective notes and would allow an expert witness to testify regarding Starkey’s state of mind at the time of the slaying.
