Four Athens County School Districts Suspend Student Activities Due To COVID-19
< < Back to two-athens-county-school-districts-suspend-athletic-activities-due-to-covid-19ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WOUB) — Four Athens County school districts have suspended extracurricular and/or athletic activities temporarily due to the rise of COVID-19 in the county.
Athens City School District superintendent Dr. Thomas Gibbs ordered all athletic and extracurricular practices and programs suspended until at least July 27, according to an email to district families.
Gibbs said the district is not aware of any additional cases related to ACSD activities.
“I feel it is in the best interest of our community to put in place greater restrictions for the time being until we have a better understanding of the degree of community spread,” he wrote.
Federal Hocking Local Schools has also ordered all athletic and extracurricular activities suspended until at least July 27, according to the district Facebook page.
Alexander Local Schools suspended all student athletic activities until July 20, according to the district’s Facebook page and an email sent to district families.
Trimble Local Schools has suspended all extracurricular activities for the week, according to Facebook.
Athens County has 167 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday; 130 of these cases are active.
