Athens County Confirms 39 New COVID-19 Cases For January 5
< < Back to athens-county-confirms-new-covid-19-cases-for-january-5ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 3,229 total cases of COVID-19 after 39 new cases were reported Monday.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the new cases on January 5, 2021.
An analysis of ODH data finds the cases involved: four people aged 0-19, eight people aged 20-29, five people aged 30-39, five people aged 40-49, five people aged 50-59, five people aged 60-69, one person aged 70-79 and six people 80 or older. One case remains uncategorized in an age group.
One person in their 50s, one person in their 60s and one person 80 or older had to be hospitalized. According to the data, 132 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
According to the Athens City-County Health Department, there are 460 known active cases and 2,760 recovered cases of COVID-19 in Athens County.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
As of 2 p.m., Tuesday, the state’s total of positive COVID-19 cases is 735,003 according to the Ohio Department of Health. The data compiled by ODH also shows 7,580 positive cases, 104 deaths and 538 new hospitalizations were reported in the last 24 hours.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
