ATHENS, OH – Tom Hodson BSJ ’70 has been appointed to the Ohio University Scripps College of Communication Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC). Hodson is the director emeritus of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism and WOUB Public Media.
“I am honored to serve on the DAC and look forward to contributing to the group in a way that helps the Scripps College meet the current needs of the media industry,” said Hodson.
Hodson served as director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism from July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2010 and director and general manager of WOUB Public Media from January 2011 until June 2016. He was director of WOUB from July 2016 through June 2020.
Hodson has had dual career paths throughout his professional career in law and journalism. He was a trial attorney for over 30 years and was a trial judge in both Municipal Court and Common Pleas Court in Ohio for seven years. Currently Hodson is the host of WOUB’s weekly public affairs podcast—Spectrum. He is the Executive Producer of six other podcasts.
The DAC was founded in 2000 by then-Dean Kathy Krendl. The group, made up primarily of alumni, is composed of professionals from throughout the communication field. The council is available to the dean for guidance and advice on curriculum matters as well as the direction of the industry. The DAC currently numbers 20 members, which include two others with WOUB ties. Paula Shugart BSC ‘81 and Bruce Dunn BSC ‘82 both worked for WOUB while they were students attending Ohio University.
