Edwards defeated his Democratic opponent, Tanya Conrath, with 59 percent of the vote. This will be Edwards fourth and final term because term limits will prevent him from running again for the seat.
The 94th district includes Athens, Meigs and Morgan counties and a portion of Washington County.
Conrath, an Athens resident, had to fight to get her name on the ballot, which didn’t happen until the last minute.
The Democratic Party chose Conrath as a replacement candidate after the party’s initial candidate dropped out of the race a few days after the August primary.
Conrath took her case to the Ohio Supreme Court after Secretary of State Frank LaRose said she could not be added to the ballot because of a deadline conflict.
A majority of the Supreme Court disagreed in a decision that came one day before the start of both absentee and early in-person voting.
