ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB)— The Meigs Lady Marauders traveled to Athens to take on the Lady Bulldogs.

The first quarter was all Ella Chapman as she had 8 points to lead Athens to a 17 to 13 first quarter lead.

Athens started the second quarter hot taking an early 29-15 lead but that is when everything changed. Meigs would score the last 9 points in the quarter to trim the bulldogs lead to just 5 going into the half.

Out of the locker room the Marauders were dominant. They found openings in the Bulldogs defense left and right and took charge of the game and never looked back. Meigs grabbed rebound after rebound and put in multiple second chance points. Meigs ended the third quarter up 41-38.

The Marauders would run away with this one as they scored 21 in the fourth versus the Bulldogs only scoring 10 points for a final score of 62-48.

Meigs can attribute the victory to teamwork’s as everyone chipped in. Delana Wright had 14 points, Rylee Lisle also had 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, Andrea Mahr had 12 points, Jennifer Parker chipped in with 9, and Keaghan Wolfe and Maggie Musser had 8 points and 6 points respectively.

While Ella Chapman carried the load for Athens with 16 points in the loss.

With this upset the Bulldogs fall to 8-1 in conference play as the Marauders improved to 6-2 in league play and kept their chance for a title alive.

Athens still has a tough road ahead this week as they take on Nelsonville-York on the road. This matchup will decide which team controls their own destiny.

Meigs needs to hope for a Buckeyes victory against Athens and then needs to take out the Buckeyes at home in the last game of the season.
