Mcarthur, Ohio (WOUB)- Just one game left for Vinton County in the TVC-Ohio, and they had to face a team in the Wellston Rockets that beat them just a few weeks ago.

But to claim sole possession of first place, they needed to get revenge on this team who is now without their top player. And they did just that, taking down the Rockets in a lopsided 69-40 victory.

The first quarter was a defensive battle with just a combined 17 points scored, and only four of them came from Wellston.

Neither team was really struggling from the field, but a full court press from the Vikings forced Wellston to take a little extra time between each possession. And with Vinton County’s tendency to swing the ball around, every possession just ate the clock up

The second quarter picked up a bit, but it ended in a dead heat, with each team scoring 16 points. Wellston started to feel it from three at the end of the half, but still went into the locker room down 9

The Vikings were able to find a little bit of separation early in the third quarter. But then Wellston started really hitting from range, with Multiple threes falling from a few steps beyond the three point line.

However, after surviving the barrage from Wellston, Vinton County really took off.

The Vikings full court press worked to perfection combined with their ability to get into the passing lanes.

This led them to a 16 point lead at the end of the third quarter, and Vinton County put it on cruise control from there, finishing the game with a 29 point victory.

The way the Vikings were able to get their revenge was to play a smooth brand of team basketball. Combined with the great defense, Vinton County had a whopping five players in double figures. They crashed the glass as a team, as 4 total players had six or more rebounds, including Ashton Allman with 10 en route to a double-double.

The Vikings now move on to their last regular season game against Zane Trace next Friday before moving fully into playoff mode
