Lady Wildcats take early control of TVC-Hocking race, beat Federal Hocking 63-55
< < Back toSTEWART, Ohio (WOUB) — In an early season test, the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers (3-0) hosted the Waterford Wildcats (1-0) in the first conference game of the season. Waterford and Federal Hocking finished 1st and 2nd in the TVC-Hocking last year and the teams split the series making the contest one of the most important in both teams’ seasons. After a back-and-forth affair, the Wildcats bested the Lancers 63 to 55.
The Lancers got out to an early lead. A phenomenal defensive performance and two Addison Jackson three-pointers in the first quarter helped Federal Hocking take a 14 to 11 lead to end the first quarter. The constant pressure from Federal Hocking defensively, on top of the home court advantage, forced Avery Wagner and Kendall Sury to carry much of the offensive load scoring all the Wildcats’ points in the first quarter.
Waterford’s offense in the second quarter opened more as Brynlee Pottmeyer and Avery Smithberger got on the scoreboard. The second half ended tied at 27. After giving up 21 points in the 3rd quarter, Federal Hocking could not come back.
The Federal Hocking Lancers fell to the Waterford Wildcats 63 to 55. Despite the loss, Federal Hocking has several things to hang their heads high on. Four players, Brenlee Cottrill, Jaylee Osborne, Takira Walker and Addison Jackson, all scored double-digits. Also, the Lancers had 10 steals with Cottrill taking 4 of them. Despite the hard effort, the rebounding of Waterford as well as Avery Wagner’s 23 points was too much for Federal Hocking.
Waterford start conference play 1-0 and go look to take this momentum in their next game this Friday at home against Unioto. As for Federal Hocking, they seek to shake off their conference loss with another important conference game away next Monday against Belpre.
