History Comes Alive At The Black History Month Live Museum
< < Back to ?p=101377Ohio University students, faculty and staff celebrated more than 400 years of African-American history Tuesday afternoon in the Baker Student Center.
The Ohio University Black Graduate Student Association (OUGBSA) organized the inaugural Live Museum.
“It’s called a live museum so people can engage in the museum and learn more about historical figures,” said Ebony Porter, an OUGBSA member and organizer of the event.
The exhibit featured paintings by prominent black artists and live performances by OU faculty and graduates. They portrayed important figures in African-American history such as Martin Luther King Jr., Ms. Jane Pittman, Harriet Tubman and Huey Newton.
Porter says the live museum makes for a more engaging and lively experience.
“Students, faculty and staff learn more,” she said. “They get to see the person depict Dr. King and somebody depict a former slave.”
Porter says the organization hopes to do more programming and events in the future as a way to postively impact the campus.
