Athens County Installs New Emergency System

The program, created by the Everbridge System for Citizen Alerts, will be able contact thousands of county businesses and citizens in the case of an emergency.
County residents can receive notifications through cell phones, landlines, text message, fax, and emails.
County officials also plan to use the system to alert citizens about other "important activites" such as road closures and water utility maintenence.
Athens County Emergency Management Director Fred Davis stressed the importance of relaying vital information as quick as possible.
"We have a commitment to protect our citizens from any danger that threatens Athens County," Davis said, "The Everbridge mass notification and interactive communication system ensures that 'Alert Athens County' will be able to react quickly and efficiently to reach each individual in the case of an emergency."
Scott Watner, Director of Athens 9-1-1 praised the county's new system.
"A roust emergency notification system is a strategic system for communities that need to notify thousands of residents and businesses rapidly and efficiently during an emergency," Warner said.
Citizens registered in the county's 9-1-1 database will automatically have thier landlines reigstered, but citizens can visit athenscountyema.org/alertathenscounty.htm to register additional or alternate information, as well opting out of the program completely.
