The NATAS Ohio Valley Chapter presents Emmy® awards to television professionals in thirteen markets in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia.

 

WOUB’s Gabe Ross, along with student reporter Christa Lamendola, will interview guests before and after the ceremony for live web stream. Ross is a member of the Ohio Valley Regional Chapter’s Board of Governors and works as a professional mentoring students in the WOUB Newsroom. 

 

Ross says his involvement with the Ohio Valley Chapter is meaningful on both a personal and professional level. 

 

“It’s an honor to be involved with the Ohio Valley Chapter,” said Ross. “Many of our (Ohio University and WOUB) alumni have won Emmy® awards and, quite honestly, it is one of the biggest honors that a television professional can receive.” 

 

Evan Shaw, WOUB’s editor and videographer, has been nominated for five Emmy® Awards by the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences’ Ohio Valley Regional Chapter.

 

The nominations come in several categories. Shaw, along with Sean Fisher and Chris Sabo, has been nominated in the Sports – Program Feature/Segment for “The Scotty Hasting Story” category and in the Editor/Sports and Photographer/Sports categories for a composite entry focusing on Ohio University Athletics.

 

Shaw, Fisher and Sabo also garnered nominations for “Relentless: An Inside Look at Ohio Football” in the director/post production and Sports/Daily or weekly program categories.

“Relentless” was a five-part WOUB Public Media series that gave viewers a special look at Ohio University Football training camp. The show gave fans an in-depth perspective of the team’s preparation for the season as well as a look at life off the field for the student athletes.

 

“Relentless” received an Emmy® in the Daily/Weekly Sports Program category in 2012.

 

Shaw, an Ohio University and WOUB alumnus, has received 12 career nominations and four Emmy® awards from the Ohio Valley Regional Chapter.

 

This year, WOUB’s “Gridiron Glory,” the regional high school football show, will be receiving a student production award. Honorable mentions were given to "Newswatch," WOUB’s nightly news program; “The Bobcat Sports Showcase,” which features Ohio University varsity sports and Christa Lamendola’s “The Goose Girl,” a feature produced for Ohio University’s Research and Creative Expo broadcast. 

 

Another student production award was given to Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies for a documentary “Made in Donegal,” which was shot in Donegal, Ireland, about the local food culture.
