Riley’s Two Goals Lead Marietta To Victory
< < Back to rileys-two-goals-lead-marietta-victoryThe Marietta men’s soccer team picked up its second victory of the season Wednesday as it defeated Bethany College 3-2.
Arkangelo James gave the Bison an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the third minute. The Bison held the 1-0 lead until the 27th minute when Wesley Riley scored his fourth goal of the season to tie the game up.
Then in the 36th minute, Riley scored his fifth goal of the season to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. Andrew Matakovich assisted on Riley’s second goal. Marietta increased its lead to 3-1 in the 36th minute when Lucas Eick struck the back of the net. Riley and Scott Eilmann picked up assists on Eick’s goal.
Arkangelo James scored for the second time in the 69th minute to cut the Pioneers’ lead to 3-2. Marietta, though, held off Bethany for the rest of the game.
Each team totaled 14 shots in the match. Marietta had one more shot on goal than Bethany with eight.
Marietta will try to continue the winning ways against La Roche College Saturday.
