Ohio Welcomes Mercer To The Convocation Center
< < Back to ohio-welcomes-mercer-convocation-centerMost students will be heading home for Thanksgiving break on Tuesday. The Bobcats, however, will not get a break from their tough nonconference schedule when the Mercer Bears come to town on Tuesday.
Mercer sports a 4-2 record with an impressive double overtime win against a major program in Seton Hall. The Bears also hung with an undefeated Texas team in the first game of the season, losing by only three points.
“They’re really well balanced on both ends of the floor,” Ohio head coach Jim Christian said. “They’re efficient. They’re not a team that’s racing the ball up the floor.”
Senior guard Langston Hall is the catalyst for the Bears, as he averages 16.5 points per game. He also does a good job of setting up his teammates, averaging 5.5 assists per game.
The entire Mercer squad does a good job of sharing the ball, as the Bears are ranked 21st in the nation in assists per game with 17.7 per game. The Bears also rank 46th in the nation in rebounding.
Ohio won its last game, though it started slowly. The Bobcats finally put it together in the second half when Heidelberg cut the lead to 45-42. From that point on, Ohio outscored Heidelberg, 40-15.
Jon Smith provided a lift for Ohio as he scored 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Nick Kellogg continued his strong play, scoring 18 points.
The Bobcats will need to bring that same intensity Tuesday when they face off with Mercer. Tipoff for the game is set for 8 p.m.
