Windham and Moore Named MAC East Players of the Week

Following the Bobcats first victory of the season, quarterback Greg Windham and linebacker Chad Moore were each named MAC East players of the week with a 37-21 win over the Kansas Jayhawks.
Windham threw for one touchdown and one interception on 19-36 passing for 167 yards, but he did most of the damage with his legs by running for 146 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown. Windham being able to take advantage of the Jayhawk’s three turnovers and being efficient with his legs in the game helped secure Ohio University’s first win over a Big 12 conference team since 1967. Windham’s rushing along with 326 total rushing yards helped make the difference compared to last week’s loss to Texas State when they couldn’t get a run game going.
“I feel like we have a run game,” coach Frank Solich said. “And if you have a run game you have a chance.”
Not only was Windham making plays on the offensive side of the ball, but Chad Moore also had himself a day with seven solo tackles, two of them for loss and a safety in the middle of the second quarter.
Moore and the Bobcat defense turned it around from allowing 56 points to Texas State to holding Kansas to only 21 points and three turnovers. The Bobcat defense was also able to hold the Jayhawks offense to only 26 yards rushing.
“I’m proud of our guys the way they came back,” Ohio coach Frank Solich said. “I thought it showed resolve. They practiced well this past week. I think the signs were there that they were going to have an opportunity to play well, and to play our potential hopefully.”
Perhaps most notably was the amount of time the Bobcats kept the ball from the Jayhawks, possessing the ball for nearly 45 minutes of play. They were also able to make them go three-and-out the first three drives and held them to only nine first downs throughout the game. Also, the defense was relentless as the Jayhawks went 0-9 on third down and 0-2 on fourth down. Ohio also had a total 496 yards as Kansas was held to 232.
This week was a much different compared to last, but have a very challenging task up next as the Bobcats head to Tennessee to take on the 17th ranked Volunteers this Saturday.
