Fairfield Union Can’t Stop Jackson’s Backfield

Blake McCoy and Reid Evans combined for 295 yards rushing and four touchdowns as the Jackson Ironmen defeated the Fairfield Union Falcons 31-7 on Friday night.
In a game played almost exclusively in torrential downpour, Jackson went to a no nonsense running attack that ensured ball security and ultimately a win. Calling only four pass plays throughout the entire game, the Fairfield Union defense knew the dynamic backfield duo was coming and still couldn’t stop them.
McCoy scored the games first and final touchdowns on runs of 32 and 51 yards respectively. Anxious to get in on the end zone celebrations, Evans rattled off runs of 23 and 25 yards to open the third quarter and distance the Ironmen from the Falcons, who trailed by just three points heading into halftime.
McCoy finished the night with 204 yards on the ground on just 19 carries and Evans rattled off 91 yards of his own, averaging an insane 23 yards per carry.
On the other side of the ball, the Ironmen defense seemed to improve as the game went on. Fairfield Union quarterback, Zach Shinn, threw for over 100-yards in the first half; in the second the Ironmen defense held him to just 24 yards. Shinn did find receiver Will Ogg on a 27-yard pass just before the halftime whistle blew, but threw two interceptions by games end.
Jackson will look to keep its undefeated season alive as they travel to Gallia Academy next Friday. Fairfield Union hopes to bounce back on the very same night as they host the Vinton County Vikings.
