South Gallia Continues Hot Start With 44-8 Victory At Federal Hocking
< < Back to south-gallia-continues-hot-start-32-0-victory-federal-hockingThe South Gallia Rebels ran all over the Federal Hocking Lancers on Friday night en route to a 44-8 road victory for the Rebels. The South Gallia offense was led by running back Dominick Seward and dual-threat quarterback Landon Hutchinson, who showed off his running abilities later in the game.
Seward was rumbling his way through the Lancers defense throughout the night, as his size and strength were difficult for Federal Hocking (0-2, 0-1 TVC-Hocking) to match, often needing multiple defenders to take him down. Seward even carried a couple of defenders on a two-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
On the first play from scrimmage for the Rebels (2-0, 1-0 TVC-Hocking), Hutchinson was able to connect with his brother Kane for a big gain to put the Rebels deep in the red zone. However, the drive would stall after South Gallia couldn’t punch the ball in and turned it over on downs.
Hutchinson did more damage on the ground than through the air, tearing up the Lancers defense for two rushing touchdowns in the first half alone. His first, and most impressive run score came on a 53-yard quarterback keeper early in the first quarter to put the Rebels up 6-0.
Federal Hocking couldn’t get much going on offense, struggling to even get the ball into Rebel territory. Lancers quarterback A.J. Cobb made a few nice throws down the field but they were either dropped or called back on interference penalties.
In one crazy sequence in the second quarter, Cobb overthrew his receiver and was picked off by a Rebels defender, and then came back on the very next play to pick off a pass of his own in the secondary. But the Rebels running game was too strong as Federal Hocking just couldn’t slow down them down, allowing them to slowly march down the field on seemingly every possession.
The Lancers travel to Belpre next Friday to take on the Golden Eagles. South Gallia will host the Trimble Tomcats on the same night in Crown City.
