Week 4 Power Rankings: West Virginia
< < Back to week-5-power-rankings-west-virginiaWeek four proved to be a mostly successful one for teams in the mountain state. Point Pleasant, Williamstown and Parkersburg all coming away with comfortable victories, while the Big Reds fell hard to the Capital Cougars, the no. 1 team in West Virginia Class AAA.
1) Point Pleasant Big Blacks (4-0)
After a 63-8 thrashing of Logan (WV) over the weekend, the Big Blacks extended their regular season winning streak to 18 games. Running back Cody Mitchell left the field with a spot in the record books, setting the single-game school record for touchdowns with seven. Five of those touchdowns came on the ground, while Mitchell also caught a score and returned an interception for six. The Big Blacks will look to maintain their streak when Gallia Academy crosses the border for a visit.
2) Williamstown Yellow Jackets (4-0)
The Yellow Jackets held onto their number two ranking in Class A and improved to 4-0 with a 34-12 victory over Oak Glen. Per usual, Dakota Watson put the team on his back, accumulating 155 yards on the ground. Watson and the Yellow Jackets play two of their most difficult games of the season with undefeated Ravenswood and St. Mary on the slate.
3) Parkersburg South Patriots (3-1)
The Patriots earned the biggest win of the Mike Eddy era Friday night with a 49-7 rout of the Warren Warriors. Junior quarterback Garrett Gilkeson added to an already impressive season, throwing for 274 yards and four scores in the win. continued his great season with another dominant performance while junior Brendan Schwendeman posted monster numbers as well with 115 total yards and three touchdowns. The Patriots will have a week off before facing Point Pleasant.
4. Parkersburg Big Reds (1-2)
After a 56-20 loss to Capital, in which they gave up 520 total yards, the Big Reds are anxious to leap back into the win column. It won’t get any easier for the Big Reds, as they cross the border to face the Marietta Tigers for the 110th time.
