Week 5 Power Rankings – SEOAL
< < Back to week-5-power-rankings-seoalThe halfway mark of the 2014 season has come and gone and there have been no conference games in the SEOAL up to this point. That will all change this Friday, however, when conference play begins for four out of the five teams in the SEOAL.
1) Jackson Ironmen (5-0, 0-0)
The regular season is halfway over and the Jackson Ironmen looked poised to make 2014 a season to remember. After losing to the Wheelersburg Pirates 49-14 last year, Jackson was able to handle the Pirates 27-0 on the road last week. The win gave the Ironmen their third shutout in four weeks and also gave Wheelersburg its first loss this season.
2) Logan Chieftains (2-3, 0-0)
After a convincing 33-point win over the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes last week, the Chieftains have earned this No. two position. Logan accumulated 220 yards on the ground and held N-Y to seven points, the second time this season they have held a team to just a touchdown while scoring at least 40 points. Big plays were the name of the game for Logan last week as they recorded two offensive touchdowns of 80 yards or more on top of two interceptions returned for touchdowns, including a 70-yard pick six by senior Chance Cox.

3) Gallia Academy Blue Devils (2-3, 0-0)
After a crushing 58-3 defeat against rival Point Pleasant last week, it’s no wonder why Gallia Academy has dropped down a peg in the rankings. However, the Big Blacks are the top-ranked offense and defense in West Virginia’s class AAA, and are a tough opponent for any team. Despite the defeat, junior quarterback Kole Carter and fellow junior Eric Ward showed strong chemistry throughout the game.
4) Portsmouth Trojans (1-4, 0-0)
The Trojans remain at the four spot in this weeks’ power rankings due to yet another loss. The Trojans fell 49-21 last week to the Ironton Fighting Tigers and have now given up at least 40 points in all four of their losses this year.
5) Warren Warriors (1-4, 0-0)
After dropping their previous matchup to Chesapeake 10-7, is evident that the Warren Warriors are still struggling to move the ball down the field. In their previous three games, the Warriors have not eclipsed seven points. There were some signs of life on defense, but the daunting task of facing Jackson awaits the Warriors on Friday.
