WOUB’s Emily Votaw and Dani Wasserman interview filmmaker, OU alum, and longtime friend of the festival, Tony Buba about his body of work (which includes 1988’s Lightning Over Braddock), how economic class impacts art-making, and his memories of some of the very first Athens International Film and Video Festivals.
This conversation is a part of a four-part podcast series produced by WOUB Culture profiling filmmakers who will be featured at the 2020/21 Athens International Film and Video Festival (AIFVF) October 15 – October 24.
Buba will make a special in person guest appearance at the festival Monday, October 18 at 7 p.m. Buba has two shorts that will be screened throughout the festival. On Saturday, October 16, Buba’s short entitled “The Barber of New Kensington” will be screened as a part of the “Let’s Face It” presentation of shorts starting at 3 p.m. On Monday, October 18 “Sunday in Rabatana — A Lesson in Making Pasta,” another one of Buba’s shorts, will be screened as a part of the “Hungry for More” presentation of shorts starting at 3 p.m.
