Indictment Returned In OU Dorm Fire
< < Back to indictment-returned-ou-dorm-fireA former Ohio University student is facing charges for a dorm fire he is accused of setting back in June.
Nathan Cencula, of St. Clairsville, is now under indictment for aggravated arson, arson, and criminal mischief, according to Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn. The Athens County Grand Jury returned the indictment against Cencula Thursday. Cencula was a student at the time he allegedly set a chair on fire in OU's Brough House. The fire caused $50,000 in damage. Blackburn says the fire affected more than just a piece of furniture.
"Well, obviously if any set fire is proven true to an occupied structure, then you've put lives in danger. And the dorm had to be evacuated that night, students had to be moved elsewhere. Obviously, being early June, it's coming up on finals and there was a major inconvenience to the university and the students who live in Brough house," said Blackburn.
Cencula will be arraigned in Athens County Common Pleas Court on January 25.
