Lancers outlast Nelsonville-York on the road

NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — The Nelsonville-York Buckeyes (10-5) hosted the Federal Hocking Lancers (8-5) in a competitive TVC-Ohio against TVC-Hocking matchup.

Both teams were down key players, leaving opportunities for other guys to step up.

The game was a tight contest the entire game, but Federal Hocking was able to pull away with the 72-65 victory.  

The Buckeyes opened the first quarter with four straight points off of assists and their ball movement proved to be pivotal.

With key contributors Landen Inman and Alec Thompson out this game, Briant Call and freshman Cameron Sullivan stepped up in their place.

Nelsonville-York had a one-point lead at the end of the quarter. 

Into the second, both teams were trading buckets, and the energy was up. They were going back and forth, with the Buckeyes hanging on to a two-point lead going into the break.  

Nelsonville-York was flat out of the half and ended up falling down 15-points early in the quarter.

A plethora of turnovers forced the Buckeyes to try and attempt a big comeback, down 58-47 at the end of the quarter.  

The fourth quarter opened up with the Buckeyes going on a 10-0 run, and having their deficit cut to within five with a minute left in the game.

Their last ditch effort would fall short and Nelsonville-York dropped a home game to Federal Hocking 72-65. 

Coach Blaine Gabriel commented on the boy’s health struggles this season.

“Biggest thing is we’ve got to get everybody healthy. We’ve played 16 games now, no excuse, we haven’t played a game yet where we have a completely healthy team.”  

The Buckeyes are slated to travel to Meigs (11-2) on Friday, for a very important TVC-Ohio matchup.
